Sheffield's Climate
Sheffield's climate is largely influenced by the area's western and eastern boundaries.
The Pennines provide shelter from the prevailing westerly winds, casting a "rain shadow" across the area. However, their high altitude creates an environment that is frequently cool, gloomy and wet.
Rainfall varies from approximately 130 millimetres (5.1 in) to 270 millimetres (11 in) per month, with December usually having the highest rainfall and July, the lowest.
