A review of Sportsman Inn by Cilc written on Friday 12th of October 2012
I regularly went to this pub for about a year. It serves 'good British grub' of an excellent quality at extremely reasonable prices. The decor in the pub is traditional, the antithesis of a 'gastro' pub and all the better for that. The staff are generally friendly and the pub has a gorgeous location on the edge of the Peak District. I used to go at weekday lunchtime and partly because of this and partly because of the traditional food the clientele tend to be rather mature. I'm a spritely 64 year old and looking round I felt on the young side, maybe that's why I kept returning! The exception to the friendly staff is a monosyllabic gentleman who could do with a customer service course. It was a spat with him that led me to stop going there. But that's probably my loss. Certainly I'd say give it a try, the food alone is worth it..
